Merge mining

What merge mining pays today

Merge mining lets one hash on a parent chain also mine the aux chains that accept its proof of work (AuxPoW), with no extra power. Today a Scrypt rig mining LTC also earns DOGE, PEP, TRMP, and DINGO on the same hash: $0.5064 per GH/s a day together, against $0.0791 for LTC alone.

Parent coin Coins counted (per unit a day) Together per unit a day
LTC · Scrypt LTC $0.0791 + DOGE $0.4265 + PEP $0.0005 + TRMP $0.0001 + DINGO $0.0001 / GH/s
BTC · Sha256 Linked, not counted yet —

A merge-mined coin is left out of the figure when it has no fresh price, an unknown miner share, a chain that stopped producing blocks, or a network hashrate that disagrees with its difficulty. A bundle that adds under 1% to the parent is not shown as a separate income.

FAQ

About merge mining

What is merge mining?

Merge mining (merged mining, AuxPoW) lets a miner work on a parent chain and several aux chains at once. The aux chains accept a proof of work made for the parent, so the same hash can win blocks on each of them. The miner earns every chain's block reward with no extra power, as long as the pool supports it.

Which coins can be merge-mined together?

On Scrypt, LTC is the parent and carries DOGE, PEP, TRMP, DINGO, BEL, BONC, and SHIC. On Sha256, BTC is the parent and carries NMC.

How is merge-mining income worked out here?

We add the parent coin's income to each aux coin's, each from its own block reward, price and network hashrate. An aux coin counts only when its chain is producing blocks, it has a fresh price, it can be traded, its miner share is known and its hashrate agrees with its difficulty. Each link between a parent and an aux coin is checked against the coin's own code and a pool that pays it merged.

Does merge mining use more electricity?

No. It is the same hash, so power and hardware stay the same. You need a pool that pays the aux coins, and you receive each coin separately, so each needs its own wallet address at the pool.
